After more than a year of searching for the best singer in the country, the rebooted “Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT)” is finally set to hail the winner today. We bring you the latest updates from the amateur singing contest:

[11:50 am] Live from the Newport Performing Arts Theater at the Resorts World Manila, “Tawag ng Tanghalan” kicked off with performances from “It’s Showtime” hosts including Billy Crawford, Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis and Vice Ganda.

[11:55 am] The top 6 grand finalists were welcomed on stage. Contenders Marielle Montellano and Pauline Agupitan completed the list when they tied for the final spot on Friday. They are joining fellow finalists, Noven Belleza, Froilan Canlas, Carl Malone Montecido and Sam Mangubat.

[12:00 noon] The judges for the “Huling Tapatan” were also introduced. The panel of judges consists of world-renowned music artists from Yeng Constantino, Erick Santos, Billy Crawford, Karylle, K Brosas, Karla Estrada, Mitoy Yonting, Nyoy Volante, Jaya, Rico Puno, Ogie Alcasid Louie Ocampo and punong hurado (head judge) Rey Valera.

[12:15 pm] Agupitan was first to perform on stage singing “And I’m telling you.” The 15-year old singer, hailed from Lipa City in Batangas, received a standing ovation from the judges including Santos who said her performance was “very, very excellent.”

[12:30 pm] The blind balladeer came next with a heartfelt performance, singing Gary Valenciano’s “Pananagutan.” Montecido recently surprised the judges when he ditched his balladeer persona. Such performances helped him clinch a spot in the finals.

[12:40 PM] Hailed from Batangas, Mangubat serenaded the crowd with the song “Fall For You.” The singer, who is already a YouTube celebrity, earned his place in the finals with his upbeat performance of Sarah Geronimo’s “Kilometro.” Brosas said his voice is worthy of a recording contract.

[12:50 pm] A rice farmer from Negros Occidental, Belleza touched the hearts of the audience once more with his performance of “May Bukas Pa.” The inspirational song is an original song of TV and music personality Puno who happens to seat as one of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” judges.

[1:00 pm] Montellano proved that she deserves her spot as she performed Deniece Williams’ “Healing.” At 17, she is the second youngest among the finalists. She scored a tie with Agupitan on Friday where she performed a high-pitch cover of “Himala.”

[1:10 pm] Probably one of the best covers of Up Dharma Down’s “Tadhana” is Canlas’s. A music teacher and a volleyball instructor, the singer is known to put his own trademark on OPM classics. His rendition of “Anak” earned him a near-perfect score from the judges and a place in the finals.

[1:25 pm] The voting line has been opened. To vote, text TAWAG and the name of the contender, and send to 2366.  We are only a few minutes away before we meet the top 3 grand finalists of the "Tawag ng Tanghalan."
