“The Super Parental Guardians” has taken in P68 million on its opening day on Wednesday, becoming the most successful debut of any Star Cinema film this year. The stars, Vice Ganda and Coco Martin have hit another record-breaking fame for their latest film following the blockbuster success of their 2015 action comedy film “Beauty and the Bestie.”

‘The Super Parental Guardians’ surpasses other top earning films in 2015

The film also surpassed the drama film “A Second Chance,” starring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, which earned P43.3 million on its opening day in November 2015, and as well as the Vic Sotto film “My Bebe Love,” which drew in P60.5 million on the first day.

However, in a Facebook post, Star Cinema did not claim whether the film defeated the first day profit of “Beauty and the Bestie.” Nevertheless, the movie was claimed as “record-breaking.” The 2015 film raked in more than P520 million in over two weeks it has dominated the cinemas, becoming the most successful Filipino film of all time. Meanwhile, also a Star Cinema film, “The Unmarried Wife” has already earned P190 million on the third week since it debuted on cinemas on Nov. 16.

2016 MMFF

Although the film was snubbed by the selection committee for the 2016 MMFF, the stars remained positive and respected the decision of the jury. Both Vice Ganda and Martin earlier said that they intend the film to provide wholesome entertainment for kids and families this Christmas.

The film did not make it in the Magic 8 of the 2016 MMFF and so does other popular entries perceived as staples to the film festival including the 10th installment of the film franchise “Enteng Kabisote” and “Mano Po.”

“The Super Parental Guardians,” headed by director Joyce Bernal, is about a tough-talking gang leader forced to take care of his orphaned nephews with the loud, gay friend of his late sister-in-law. It also features breakout childhood stars Simon "Onyok" Pineda and Awra Briguela, who were Martin’s co-stars in the ABS-CBN primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
