Everyone is looking forward to the unveiling of Samsung Galaxy S8. As expected, it will be one of the top-notch devices in 2017 and is seen to rival the upcoming iPhone 8 from Apple. Before we all get giddy to get hold of the smartphone, here’s a look at the expected specs of the Galaxy S7 successor and the things we know for sure:

It will reportedly sport a dual-curved edge display design along with a low bezel to screen ratio. The flagship seems to focus on a sleeker design with more screen space which the curved screens allow. This design has become the current norm for companies which Samsung has long taken advantage of.

Leaked specs claim the upcoming Samsung smartphone will feature a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, with 85 or 90 percent screen. On the other hand, the bigger Galaxy S8 Plus is anticipated to sport a 6.2-inch screen size. While both screen sizes are larger than the Note 7’s 5.7-inch screen, the S8 is expected to have a smaller footprint than the Note 7, S8 Edge and S8 Plus.

The Galaxy S8 is rumored to house the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset in the US models and the Exynos 8895 chipset for the rest. Both processors use the 10-nanometer technology, which promises to improve the smartphone efficiency.

RAM And storage

The Samsung flagship is speculated to feature 4GB of RAM in contrary to the 6GB of RAM as was expected by many. The internal storage is suggested to be 64GB and the device will likely support expandable memory via microSD card. This feature gives an edge to the S8 compared to Apple smartphones, which do not support expandable storages.

Camera and resolution

With a 3,000 mAh battery under its hood, the Galaxy S8 is expected to come with a 12MP rear facing and 8MP front facing cameras, which will also house an Iris scanner functionality. On the other hand, Samsung is anticipated to go ultra-HD for its newest flagship with a 4K resolution of 3,840x2,160 pixels.

AI assistant

The smartphone, which has received an iP68 certification that makes the device water and dust resistant, will reportedly house a new digital assistant named Bixby. Filing a patent for the AI assistant is a good indicator that the smartphone will have Bixby and maybe a female voice variant named Kestra, to up the user’s experience with the device.

Price, availability, release date

The Galaxy S8 is expected to be priced at around $970 upon its launch. Samsung already confirmed that it will reveal the Samsung Galaxy S8 on March 29 in New York City. With the new flagship, it hopes to bounce back from its former glory after the dilemma brought about by the hazardous and discontinued Galaxy Note 7.
