In commemoration of the 120th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, a portion of the Roxas Boulevard in Manila is closed to public on Friday. On the same day, the Manila Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2, and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 are giving free rides to passengers in celebration of Rizal Day.

Road closure, alternate routes

The Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) announced the northbound and southbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to TM Kalaw St. will be closed from 6:30 am to 9 am on Friday.  The alternate routes provided by the MDTEU are listed below.

Those going north along Roxas Boulevard: Vehicles may turn right at TM. Kalaw St. and exit left at Ma. Orosa St. before continuing to their destination.

Those who are traveling from Delpan Bridge-Pier Zone going south: Vehicles may turn left to P. Burgos and exit right at Ma. Orosa St. towards their destination.

Those coming from the McArthur Bridge, Jones Bridge and Quezon Bridge planning to use the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard may use Taft Avenue instead towards their destination.

Free rides at LRT 2, MRT 3

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) advised on Thursday the MRT 3 and LRT 2 will once again offer free rides to commuters in line with the celebration of Rizal Day. The free rides offer will take effect from 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.

The free rides are given in celebration of Rizal Day which falls on Dec. 30. The day is considered a national holiday as the country commemorates the execution of the Philippine national hero, Rizal, in 1896.
