Rakrakan Festival, the largest gathering of everything OPM, is set to return to the local music scene on Jan. 14 at the SM Mall of Concert Grounds. Now on its fourth year, the event launches “OPM Against Drugs” campaign which aims to inform and educate the youth on the dangers of drug abuse and addiction.

1. Its advocacy

Probably the most important thing you can’t miss about the “Rakrakan Festival OPM Against Drugs” is its advocacy to raise awareness of drug abuse and addiction through music and the arts. In a press conference held on Jan. 6, one of the event organizers, Keith dela Torre said the idea for an anti-drug themed festival stemmed from the drug-related deaths during the “Closeup Forever Summer” concert in 2015.

In its efforts to dissociate the music scene from drug use, the organizers have partnered with the Pasay City Anti-Drug Abuse Council and Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), among others. The organizers hope to educate the youth on the dangers of substance abuse and addiction.

2. Your favorite OPM bands

Apart from its drug preventive education and rehabilitation information drive, Rakrakan Festival boasts a wide range of genres from a diverse mix of independent and mainstream artists including Ebe Dancel, SUD, Gracenote, Chicosci, Pedicab, Bullet Dumas, Moonstar88, Imago, Pupil, Barbie Almalbis, Slapshock, Charice Pempengco, KZ Tandingan to name a few.

The festival will go simultaneously on all five stages which are: Move, Indie, Mosh, Slam, and Groove. Each stage, which will carry different themes, will house 20 performers and bands each.

3. Skateboarding exhibition, competition and other activities

The festival will also feature pocket events like the Skateboarding Exhibition and Competition, a Street Art Contest, and a Merch Exhibit for a guaranteed maximize Rakrakan experience. Side activities such as face painting and henna tattooing, brand-sponsored games, information drives, and artist meet-and-greet (for VIP ticket holders) will also be accessible to complement the entirety of the festival.
