Filipino talents were once again recognized after “Finding Dory” director Andrew Stanton and producer Lindsey Collins cited “Pixnoys,” aka Filipinos who work at Pixar Animation Studios, for their contributions in making the sequel to the 2003 film “Finding Nemo.”

Stanton, a two-time Oscar awardee director for “WALL-E” and “Finding Nemo,” and Collins, said in an interview that they sought help from “Pixnoys,” namely Paul Abadilla, Ronnie del Carmen and Virginia “Gini” Cruz Santos in the early stages of bringing the film to life.

“We needed Gini, especially early on with all the new animators coming in, who hadn’t worked on the original film, to remind them how Dory acts and behaves,” The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported Collins as saying.

“We were trying to find those key animators who really found those characters early on. Gini was one of them,” Collins added.

Santos, who hails from Pasay City, was among the original animators of “Finding Nemo.” She worked on the character Dory, to which she had incorporated the Filipino sense of humor as well as the memorable facial expressions.

Ronnie del Carmen, a University of Santo Tomas alum, also worked on most of the emotional scenes in the film. He already has experience visualizing emotionally complex scenes in other Pixar animated films that’s why he was also chosen to be part of “Finding Dory.” Del Carmen was nominated at the Oscars 2016 for best original screenplay for “Inside Out.”

Abadilla, a set designer, was also cited by Stanton and Collins. He helped in creating the sets for “Finding Dory,” which include the interiors of an aquarium and a verdant kelp forest.

“Finding Dory” is the sequel to “Finding Nemo,” which now focuses on Dory, the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish. Ellen DeGeneres will still provide the voice of Dory.

In the new Pixar animated film, Dory, with help from Nemo (Hayden Rolence) and Marlin (Albert Brooks), journeys to an emotional yet exhilarating ride as she finds her way home to reunite with her loved ones.

“Finding Dory” swims into Philippine theaters on June 16.
