It may be somewhat 'overshadowed,' but there is no reason why Manila can't become the "next luxury hot spot" in the world of travel, as far as Forbes is concerned. Recently, the publication has released its latest Forbes Travel Guide, which is done by a group of "expert inspectors" who work to bestow prestigious Star Ratings to properties around the world. For 2017, several properties around Metro Manila were rated and included in the list.

Casinos pave way for Manila to become the next "glitzy" hot spot

According to a report from Forbes, Manila holds promise because it has managed to position itself as a "glitzy gambling hub different from any other." To date, the metro is now home to a couple of mega casino resorts, including the City of Dreams and Solaire. Soon, Okada Manila is also set to make its grand opening. Together, these resorts easily rival the likes of Singapore and Macau, offering not just gaming and entertainment, but fine dining and other luxury experiences as well.

"Solaire has built a very impressive integrated resort with a high level of attention to the details of its interiors and facilities that has changed the way people view destination resorts in Manila," Forbes reported Solaire Resort & Casino senior vice president of resort operations Rajesh Jhingon as saying. Today, Solaire regularly hosts a number of sold-out productions at its massive 1,740 seat theater. Most recently, it is the venue for the hit musical "Wicked."

On the other hand, City of Dreams is home to Center Play, which is a theater stage offering live performances right in the middle of the casino. For those visiting with their families, there is also DreamPlay, which offers various interactive experiences for children that are inspired by various DreamWorks Animation films, such as "Shrek" and Kung Fu Panda." To top it all, Manila will also soon be the location for the luxury integrated resort Resorts World Bayshore, which is set to open in 2019.

Several Manila properties receive impressive Forbes star ratings

At the same time, Forbes had also granted two Manila properties with a five-star rating for 2017. These include the Sky Tower at Solaire Resort and Casino as well as the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. Meanwhile, four-star ratings were awarded to Hyatt City of Dreams Manila, Fairmont Makati, Raffles Makati and Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. Lastly, Forbes had also named two recommended properties here, namely Pan Pacific Manila and Makati Shangri-La, Manila.

At the same time, the Forbes report has also taken note that one of the things visitors will love about visiting Manila is the warmth it can expect from its people. World renowned traveler and tv host Anthony Bourdain had once said that Filipino are just "so damn caring." The Filipinos' fluency in both English and Tagalog also goes a long way when it comes to the hospitality industry. "It is the genuine, warm, pleasing and professional service and welcome of the people that shines through and the fluency in English wherever you go," Frank Reichenbach, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila general manager, noted.

According to a press statement, the Forbes Travel Guide rating system grants star ratings based on of 800 objective standards including exceptional service, desirable location as well as the high quality of the facility and amenities.
