The heat index (HI) in Metro Manila is expected to reach 38.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the highest actual (observed) heat index recorded on Monday was 49.4 degrees Celsius, which happened at 2 pm in Sangley Point, Cavite. Heat Index in the Philippines

Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao

Metro Manila’s heat index will range from 27.3 degrees Celsius to 38.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). On Wednesday, it is expected to be in the range between 26.7 to 37.3 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, Metro Cebu's heat index will range from 29.5 to 37.0 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 30.0 to 36.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Metro Davao is expected to have a heat index range of 28.0 to 37.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 27.4 to 36.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Baguio City Heat Index

As for Baguio, aka the Summer Capital of the country, it is expected to have a heat index that ranges from 17.1 to 26.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday. The City of Pines is a popular destination for tourists seeking shelter and respite from the hot sun.

1. Cagayan De Oro (CDO) City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 24.7 to 34.1 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 24.6 to 33.5 degrees Celsius range.

2. Iloilo/Bacolod City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 28.8 to 36.4 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 29.0 to 36.7 degrees Celsius range.

3. Laoag City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 27.2 to 37.0 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 27.4 to 37.0 degrees Celsius range.

4. Legaspi City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 27.6 to 35.6 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 27.7 to 35.2 degrees Celsius range.

 5. Puerto Princesa City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 28.8 to 37.3 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 29.1 to 37.4 degrees Celsius range.

6. Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA): On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 26.7 to 37.5 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 26.7 to 36.8 degrees Celsius range.

7. Tacloban City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 27.0 to 35.1 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 27.6 to 35.3 degrees Celsius range.

8. Tuguegarao City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 27.1 to 39.1 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 27.2 to 38.4 degrees Celsius range.

9. Zamboanga City: On Tuesday, the heat index in this area will range from 27.5 to 36.4 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, it will be in the 27.6 to 36.5 degrees Celsius range.

Heat Index Definition

Heat Index is also referred to as apparent temperature. Basically, the heat index combines the relative humidity and air temperature to determine the equivalent temperature that humans will perceive, aka the "felt air temperature."

PAGASA's advice about the Heat Index

According to PAGASA, people residing in areas with a heat index that ranges from 32 – 41 degrees Celsius or 90 – 105 degrees Fahrenheit should exercise extreme caution. Heat exhaustion and heat cramps are possible and continuing activity could result in heat stroke. As much as possible, stay indoors and use electric fans or air conditioners and drink plenty of water.
