Leticia Ramos-Shahani, 87, the younger sister of former Philippine president Fidel V. Ramos, died on Monday, March 20 at around 2:40 am. She was suffering from cancer before she passed away. Shahani was a former Philippine senator who was in office from June 30, 1987 to June 30, 1998. She served as the 16th Senate President pro tempore of the Philippines from July 6, 1993 to Oct. 10, 1996.

"Mom left the body, by the awful grace of God, at 2:40 am this morning, just a few hours after my 50th birthday," Shahani’s daughter, Lila posted on her official Facebook account about her mom’s death. "Bereft and full of grief, but still strangely peaceful in the knowledge that she is now free from all suffering," she added.
Former senator Shahani was also a career diplomat before becoming a politician. She has three children from her marriage to the late Professor Dr Ranjee Gurdassing Shahani, PhD. Aside from Lila, who is a Philippine civil servant, her other children are entrepreneur Chanda Shahani and 6th District of Pangasinan Board Member Ranjit Shahani. Ranjit is also a former Pangasinan Vice Governor.
