The Philippines was hit by a batch of earthquakes again, this time rocking the Davao Oriental area on Tuesday morning and the Batangas area around noon. The magnitudes range from 1.8 to 4.8. Read on to learn more about the earthquakes in the Philippines.
Here are three things to know about the latest earthquakes that hit the Philippines on Tuesday:
1. Six earthquakes hit Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental on Tuesday, April 11.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reports that six earthquakes hit Davao Oriental's Governor Generoso on Tuesday, which started at 12:06 am. The latest one happened at 11:18 am. The first earthquake had a 3.5 magnitude, while the second one which happened at 5:30 am, had a magnitude of 3.6.
The third earthquake was 4.4 magnitude and it occurred at 10:44 am. The fourth tremor had a magnitude of 4.8 and it happened at 10:50 am. As for the fifth earthquake, it had a magnitude of 4.5 which occurred at 11:03 am. The sixth earthquake was recorded at 11:18 am which had a 3.8 magnitude. It was tectonic in origin and was located at 05.50 degrees North, 127.36 degrees East - 173 km South 49 degrees East of Governor Generoso.
2. Twelve earthquakes occurred in San Luis, Batangas on Tuesday.
Batangas is still experiencing continuous earthquakes, especially in San Luis. The 12 earthquakes that hit the area range in magnitude from 2.4 to 3. The first earthquake that rocked San Luis on Tuesday was at 12:03 am and it had a magnitude of 2.6. Meanwhile, the magnitude 3 quake that rocked the area happened at 10:14 am. The latest tremor in San Luis was the 3.5 magnitude quake at 2:02 pm. According to PHIVOLCS, this had an Intensity II but they are not expecting damage or aftershocks.
3. Thirteen earthquakes happened in Mabini, Batangas.
Mabini, Batangas, which is under a state of calamity because of several earthquakes that occurred in the area, is still experiencing minor earthquakes. The first earthquake that happened in Mabini on Tuesday was at 1:45 am and it had a magnitude of 2. The latest tremor in the area had a magnitude of 3.1 and it occurred at 1:25 pm. The reported instrumental intensity was at Intensity I in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. No damage or aftershocks are also expected from this quake.
Aside from these earthquakes, other minor earthquakes also happened in Libjo, Surigao del Norte (2.9 magnitude at 3:04 pm), Bagulin, La Union (3.3 magnitude at 1:27 pm), Tingloy, Batangas (3.9 magnitude at 6:17 am) and Itbayat, Batanes (3.3 magnitude at 12:59 am).
