The heat index, or human discomfort index in Metro Manila is expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Check out the list below to see today’s maximum temperature (HI_Tx) forecast in other areas of the Philippines, according to PAGASA’s official website.

1. Baguio City

Heat Index maximum temperature (HI_Tx):  25.7 degrees Celsius

2. Cagayan De Oro City

Heat Index maximum temperature (HI_Tx): 36.5 degrees Celsius

3. Laoag City

Heat Index maximum temperature (HI_Tx): 40.4 degrees Celsius

4. Legaspi City

Heat Index maximum temperature (HI_Tx): 37.5 degrees Celsius

5. Iloilo/Bacolod City

Tuguegarao City is expected to be the hottest area on Thursday with a heat index maximum temperature of 43.1 degrees Celsius. It will also be hot in Laoag City with its 40.4 degrees Celsius heat index maximum temperature.

Meanwhile, Baguio stays cool at 25.7 degrees Celsius, proving that it is still the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

According to PAGASA, areas with a heat index of 32 to 41 degrees Celsius heat index must exercise extreme caution because heat exhaustion and heat cramps are possible. It could even lead to heat stroke if exhausting activities, especially under the intense heat of the sun, are continued.

The combination of humidity and air temperature is called the heat index. Air temperature measures how hot or cold the air is. Meanwhile, humidity is atmospheric moisture, or the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere or a gas.

Heat index is also referred to as “apparent” temperature, or the perceived temperature affecting a human’s body.
